Dog Notes is the SnoutCheck newsletter. We send one email every other Tuesday. It covers one dog-health, nutrition, or behavior topic at the depth it actually deserves, with the veterinary sources we leaned on so you can check our work. We write carefully here for a reason: a newsletter is not a vet, and a dog that is off its food, limping, or hiding does not need our opinion, it needs an exam.

What lands in your inbox

  • One topic, treated properly. What the current veterinary guidance says, where it is genuinely unsettled, and the part owners most often get wrong. No filler around it.
  • The sources behind it. When we make a specific claim about canine health, we tell you where it comes from — AVMA, AAHA, Merck Vet Manual, Cornell Riney Canine Health Center, peer-reviewed studies — so you are not taking our word alone.
  • One reader question we can answer responsibly. If a question really needs a vet, we say that plainly instead of guessing, because that is the honest answer.
  • The team behind each issue. Cassiel writes nutrition and food-safety pieces. Tova covers digestive, respiratory, and skin topics. Rowan covers bone, joint, dental, and emergency triage. The byline matches the expertise.

Five minutes to read, give or take. The point is to make you a calmer, better-informed owner, not to replace the person who can actually examine your dog.

What you will not get

  • Diagnoses by email. We will not tell you what is wrong with your dog. We will tell you what the literature says and when to call a vet.
  • Daily email or alarmist subject lines. One issue every two weeks, written like an adult.
  • Sponsored content posing as advice. Any partnership is labeled in the subject line and follows the affiliate disclosure.
  • Your email shared outside the vendors named in the privacy policy.

After you sign up

A confirmation email arrives within a few minutes, sent through Mailchimp. Click the link and you are in. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder and add newsletter@snoutcheck.com to your contacts — this is the single most common reason people miss the first issue.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are out, no questions asked, no retention email. We measure how the newsletter is doing by who reads it, not by the size of the list.

Editorial standards

Every newsletter issue follows the same standards as articles on the site: vet-sourced claims, plain language, no inflated promises, and a correction note when we get something wrong. The full editorial policy is on the site.
